Retail discount scheme for small businesses
In the Autumn of 2018, the Government announced that it will provide a business rates retail discount scheme for occupied businesses with a rateable value of less than £51,000 in the years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. Businesses can apply to Test Valley Borough Council as they are not always automatically awarded SBR. The main reason for that is because eligibility for the relief is not just based on the RV being under £15,000. Other factors to consider include whether the business has any other properties and the RV of those. Relief of 100% is potentially available for business with an RV up to £12,000. It is then tapered for RV between £12,000 and £15,000, at which point the full charge is payable. If you think your business might be applicable to receive this discount but have not received a bill and letter detailing the discount, please contact Test Valley Borough Council:
FOOD FAIR 12TH MAY
Andover BID were delighted to deliver its first event on Sunday 12th May. The sun shone and 15 varied food stalls in the High Street brought at least 1,500 people into the town centre. Stall holders reported booming business and several said that they had a complete sell-out. Our local businesses seemed delighted to have the additional footfall and reported brisk trading on the day.
The Andover BID is just one- month old and is currently speaking to businesses about their ideas for the future including any events that they think should happen in the town and where and when they should be held. The BID now has its website, it is working on an Initiative to bring free Wi-Fi to the town centre and businesses are saying that they are keen to see an effective radio system put into place so that they can effectively communicate and notify each other of any issues arising.
BID has its 1st success and secures a new tenant for an empty unit.
We have secured some preferential rental terms for two of the towns empty retail units, and Andover BID is proactively working with businesses both locally and outside the area to reduce the number of vacant units in the town centre and to add to the offer; we congratulate Lindy on her new business venture and wish her every success for her new Bridal and Prom wear business.
BID is reinforced as being a great asset for Andover by local MP & Government Housing Minister.
At a recent business seminar arranged by Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, we were delighted when our local MP welcomed Andover BID to the town and reinforced the governments support for BIDs nationally.
BID has opened negotiations about a two-way radio scheme in the town
Businesses from both the retail and licensed sector have told us that Andover would be a safer place with the introduction of a good communication system and processes to ensure businesses are confidentially working together to support the police in reducing local crime levels.
Business Waste Charter
BID is close to securing a Business waste Charter in the town
There is not currently an organised approach in the town centre for effectively disposing of business waste in a timely and environmentally-friendly manner whilst aiming to reduce unsightly waste in high footfall areas.
